Targeted Treatment: The Role of Injectables in Weight Loss Management
Target Audience: Pharmacist, Pharmacy Tech, Physician Assistant, Physician
Course Overview
Injectable antiobesity medications (AOMs) offer a novel approach to obesity management by targeting neurohormonal pathways to achieve sustained weight loss and improve metabolic health. Agents such as liraglutide, semaglutide, and tirzepatide have demonstrated significant efficacy in clinical trials, with benefits including reductions in cardiometabolic risk and treatment of sleep apnea. Incorporating AOMs into a comprehensive treatment plan that includes dietary, physical, and behavioral interventions is essential for optimizing outcomes. This educational activity explores the mechanisms, efficacy, and safety profiles of injectable AOMs, with an emphasis on their integration into a comprehensive obesity treatment framework. This course also discusses the role of interprofessional collaboration in delivering patient-centered obesity care for patients utilizing these medications.
