Course Overview
KILO Challenge 1 — Pediatric Patients is an interactive continuing education activity designed for pharmacists and pharmacy technicians involved in the preparation and dispensing of medications for pediatric patients. Through six scenario-based rooms, learners apply principles related to medication palatability, age-appropriate dosage forms, formulation and vehicle considerations, excipient and sweetener safety, pediatric pharmacokinetics, administration volume, caregiver communication, and labeling. The activity emphasizes recognizing pediatric-specific concerns, working from approved formulation and dispensing information, and taking actions appropriate to the learner's professional role. The underlying source course identifies pediatric compounding as an important means of addressing unique medication needs and emphasizes the knowledge and skills necessary to provide safe and effective therapies.
Learning Objectives
Upon completion of this educational activity, participants should be able to:
- Identify pediatric patient and formulation factors that affect palatability, dosage-form practicality, and safe medication use
- Differentiate documented-formulation matches from deviations and identify formulation-integrity concerns that require verification or escalation
- Recognize pediatric excipient/sweetener, age-related pharmacokinetic, and administration-practicality concerns and select a profession-appropriate next action
- Verify caregiver-facing operational information and labeling against approved prescription/formulation information and distinguish operational information from questions requiring pharmacist judgment

- Read the "learning objectives" and "author and planning team disclosures"
- Study the section entitled "educational activity"
- Complete the Course Test and Evaluation form. The Course Test will be graded automatically. Following successful completion of the Course Test with a score of 70% or higher, a statement of participation will be made available immediately. (No partial credit will be given.)
Credit for this course will be automatically uploaded to CPE Monitor®.
