Important Information for PTCB Certified Pharmacy Technicians
In South Dakota, the state does not require pharmacy technicians to complete continuing education (CE) hours to maintain their pharmacy technician license. However, if a technician holds certification through the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB), they must still meet the PTCB’s continuing education requirements. The PTCB mandates 20 hours of CE every two years, including at least one hour focused on pharmacy law and one hour on patient safety, to ensure that technicians stay current on industry standards, safety protocols, and evolving pharmacy practices. This requirement helps pharmacy technicians maintain their certification and keep their knowledge and skills up to date, even in states like South Dakota where CE is not mandated by state law. If you haven’t taken your PTCB certification exam or want to know more about their requirements, visit PTCB's website.
