Course Overview

Pressure-induced skin injuries, commonly known as pressure ulcers or bed sores, are local damage to skin or soft tissue. They are a significant concern in acute and long-term care settings and can lead to severe complications if not managed properly. This continuing education activity will provide healthcare professionals, including physicians and pharmacists, with an in-depth understanding of pressure injuries, focusing on risk identification, staging of severity, and management and monitoring strategies.

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this educational activity, participants should be able to:

  • Recall risk factors for the development of pressure injuries
  • Explain staging systems used to classify the severity of pressure injuries

Dr. Fredrickson is an assistant professor of internal medicine at Northeast Ohio Medical University, where he serves as core faculty and teaches diagnostics, therapeutics, clinical skills, and health humanities. He is board-certified in general internal medicine and practices rural primary care.
