Course Description

Lithium is a first-line choice for treating and preventing manic episodes in patients diagnosed with bipolar disorder. While it is generally accepted as a safe and effective drug for bipolar disorder, lithium has a narrow therapeutic window and requires close monitoring of laboratory trends of lithium levels and patient symptoms. A thorough understanding of the potential complications and adverse effects that could occur should be established prior to initiating lithium therapy. The following sections will discuss the basic pharmacological profile and uses of lithium.
