Course Summary
Men’s Health Month is celebrated in the United States in June each year to spread awareness and educate people on men’s health issues. One issue many face is hypogonadism, which includes low testosterone levels. This leads to a decrease in the quality and/or quantity of sperm as well as androgen deficiency. Testosterone levels naturally decline as men age, but some experience a more pronounced deficiency that can negatively affect their quality of life. Testosterone replacement therapy (TRT) may be used to address this condition. The use of TRT therapy has grown in recent years. While there are some benefits, these therapies are not without risk. Healthcare team members, including pharmacists and physicians, should overcome uncertainties and variations in its diagnosis and management to be knowledgeable about TRT. This approach should facilitate appropriately identifying candidates for therapy, educating patients on proper use and risks, monitoring adverse effects, and optimizing therapeutic outcomes. This continuing education activity will explore the clinical applications of TRT, including its benefits, risks, and considerations for safe and effective use, focusing on the roles of care team members.
