Important Information for Certified Pharmacy Technicians
In Connecticut, pharmacy technicians are not required by the state to complete continuing education (CE) hours to maintain their pharmacy technician license. However, if a technician holds certification through the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB), they must meet the PTCB's continuing education requirements. The PTCB mandates 20 hours of CE every two years, including at least one hour focused on pharmacy law and one hour on patient safety, to ensure that technicians stay current on industry standards, safety protocols, and evolving pharmacy practices. This requirement helps pharmacy technicians maintain their certification and keep their knowledge and skills up to date, even in states like Connecticut where CE is not mandated by state law. If you have not taken your PTCB certification exam or want to know more about their requirements, visit https://www.ptcb.org/.
Are there recommended CE Courses for Connecticut Pharmacy Technicians that meet PTCB CE requirements?
Patient Safety courses like Medication Errors are great for Connecticut Pharmacy Technicians because they can help them avoid pervasive issues in the Pharmacy field. Pharmacy law or drug law is another popular topic that is often a required CE course topic in other states and required by the PTCB. Immunizations can also be a big part of a pharmacy tech’s job, therefore our courses on Immunization can be a benefit.
