Course Summary
Otitis media, a middle ear infection, presents unique challenges in clinical management, necessitating a comprehensive understanding of its pathophysiology, diagnostic methods, and evidence-based treatment approaches. As members of interprofessional care teams, it is important for pharmacists and pharmacy technicians to understand the clinical presentation and evaluation of patients with otitis media, as well as recommended treatment strategies. This continuing education presentation is designed for pharmacists and pharmacy technicians to enhance their knowledge and roles in the holistic care of patients with otitis media and will cover the pathophysiology, etiology, epidemiology, differential diagnosis, and complications of otitis media. Additionally, this monograph will discuss recommended treatment strategies, including mechanisms of action, dosing, and side effects of antibiotic therapies.
