Course Summary

HIPAA refers to the federal law that protects sensitive patient health information from being disclosed without the consent of the patient. Another purpose of this legislation was to improve the portability and accountability of health insurance coverage for employees between jobs and to reduce fraud and abuse in healthcare. HIPAA rules apply to pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, and staff. This course discusses HIPAA privacy and security rules, and the penalties for noncompliance. Health technology is advancing rapidly. Pharmacists and pharmacy staff need to keep pace with these changes.
