Course Summary
Chronic kidney disease (CKD) affects nearly 15% of U.S. adults and remains a leading cause of morbidity, mortality, and healthcare costs. It is a progressive condition that significantly impacts patient outcomes and quality of life and is associated with a broad range of complications, including cardiovascular disease, electrolyte imbalance, anemia, and bone-mineral disorders. This interprofessional continuing education program provides an up-to-date overview of CKD detection, classification, and management in accordance with the 2024 Kidney Disease: Improving Global Outcomes (KDIGO) guidelines. Learners will explore evidence-based strategies to slow disease progression, including pharmacologic interventions and team-based care approaches that optimize blood pressure, glycemia, and lipid control. Participants will also learn how to apply current guidelines, interpret key laboratory parameters such as eGFR and albumin-creatinine ratio, and contribute effectively to comprehensive, patient-centered renal care. This educational activity also highlights the roles of the healthcare team, reinforcing how collaborative care, patient education, and adherence support improve safety and outcomes in patients with CKD.
