Course Summary
Within the realm of men’s health conditions, benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) is a disorder with major public health consequences. Benign prostatic hyperplasia is a histological diagnosis and refers to a benign growth of prostate tissue. It is a common cause of lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS), which often progress in prevalence and severity as men age. Patients with BPH require a patient-centered, holistic approach to care that involves improving symptoms and quality of life, preventing disease progression, and minimizing medication side effects. All healthcare providers can play a crucial role in identifying patients who require BPH treatment, recommending referrals, and assisting the care team with BPH medication management. Further, pharmacists can provide crucial counseling on the appropriate use of BPH medications and help patients to mitigate side effects and avoid harmful drug interactions.
Describe the etiology of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH)
Compare and contrast treatment strategies for BPH
