Course Summary
Gabapentin is an anticonvulsant medication used to treat a host of medical conditions. They include seizures, diabetic neuropathy, restless legs syndrome, post-herpetic neuralgia and fibromyalgia. Gabapentin is often used to treat acute or chronic pain associated with many of these conditions, which can help improve a patient’s quality of life. Gabapentin is also used to treat mood and anxiety disorders. As a treatment for pain, gabapentin can achieve pain relief in various age groups. Gabapentin use can produce side effects such as somnolence, dizziness, headache, diarrhea, ataxia and fatigue. There are also reported cases of gabapentin misuse and overdose.
